    They are anti-matter nacelles. 
    Just smaller versions of what you see on Startrek ships.

A very helpful answer, thank you.  :-)
This very small aircraft as another picture shows does fly.
Those things look more like oversized hair dryers to me.
This link does show real propellers.

Another link explains that real jet engines can be used although they are
quite tiny.
